A Typical Day at a Children’s School.
There’s no doubt that things are very different now because of coronavirus and it is a challenging time, but it’s equally rewarding. Our students depend on us so we always remain positive for them and each other.

There’s lots of extra precautionary measures in place to protect against COVID-19, like wearing PPE and social distancing, but our ethos and approach has stayed the same. We are trying to ensure everything remains as ‘normal’ as possible and the positive attitude of all the staff really helps.
Some of the students find our PPE quite amusing. Sometimes our goggles steam up and it makes them laugh! We’re very vigilant about safety but we try to keep everyone’s spirits up. You can regularly hear singing coming from the classes, it might not all be in tune, but it’s a good sound and keeps a positive atmosphere in the school!
The students enjoy a variety of different lessons throughout the day. There’s also physical programmes taking place and we assist our students to use different specialist equipment. We’re on hand to help our students gain confidence in their own abilities and support them to reach their goals.
We also have several therapy staff on site, such as physiotherapists, speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, who support the students with personalised programmes. The sessions are based on each student’s individual needs and the outcomes they are trying to achieve.
We always try to go outside as much as possible to make use of our beautiful grounds – outdoors learning is great for acquiring new skills and enjoying the fresh air.

Inspiring is a word that best describes my experience of working at Ingfield Manor School. Both the students and staff. Never in my life would I have thought that I would ever work in such a setting that is full of such positivity, kindness and teamwork. Each day working at Ingfield is full of laughter and high achievements.
There is no such thing as can’t because everyone CAN achieve and reach their end goals – they may just require some adaption and little changes to help them along the way. Everyone has a voice, there are just many different ways to express it and here at Ingfield they help achieve this.
The school has helped myself widen my knowledge in an area that growing up I never thought I would become involved in. It has helped me enable an understanding of the goals and places I wish to achieve in my future down the path of special needs and disability.
The school has helped to teach me new skills in conductive education and its importance to the students and training in many different methods of communication, especially Makaton, which has allowed me to communicate with a wider audience in the outside community we live in.
I honestly never thought I would ever find a place of work where at the end of each working day I could leave with a big smile on my face and the satisfaction that today I have helped someone achieve and reach their goals.”

People like you work in care & education.
People like Laurie…
Having worked both sides of the Atlantic in conductive education schools, Laurie Pullin is a passionate advocate of this style of learning. She oversees the primary provision and says that there’s nothing more rewarding than starting students off in their education and watching them succeed. She says that her fantastic students never fail to inspire her.
If you want to come to work every day and be with inspiring students and do an incredibly rewarding job, you should give this a go. You’ll be making a difference in the lives of your students and their families. It’s great to know that their futures will be different because of the way you work with them in a school like this. Having a job like this is pretty amazing, so it’s a challenge worth taking.
